Lymph and the lymphatic system are not part of everyone’s education.

Knowing how to take care of your lymph is misunderstood, yet it is vitally important.

I used to be nervous when people talked to me about lymph and the lymphatic system, and I do not like being motivated by fear. I worried about cancer-survivor stories where a brave woman waited to hear if cancer had invaded her lymph nodes, and if it did, how futile her efforts to heal seemed to be.

Here’s What I’ve Learned

My education as a health coach continues! By this I mean, I now think that nutrition and wellness information should empower us, and that fear-based on limited understanding should be released! If you are mystified by this element of self-care, now is the right time to understand all the easy ways to take optimum care of your system!

Health Basics

The lymph cleanses your body and the lymphatic system is twice the size of your circulatory system. Inflammation and congestion there are responsible for most of the illnesses we experience as humans. If you experience any of these symptoms, you can know that your lymphatic system needs your attention.

  • bloating
  • weight gain
  • swelling in fingers, ankles, and feet
  • skin rashes
  • sore throat
  • headaches
  • fatigue
  • fibroid

Here are simple steps to drain and heal your lymph as well as prevent future congestion

  • Focus on eating fresh, organic green produce. Skip processed food and fast food.
  • Enjoy plenty of red organics, too! Beets, cherries, and berries are excellent.
  • Sip from a cup of warm water every 15 minutes throughout the day.
  • Reduce stressors in your lifestyle. Stress activates hormones like cortisol which is acidic to your system. Lymph loves an alkaline environment.
  • Seek out alternative therapies like acupuncture and massage.
  • Herbal support from Manjistha is very helpful.
  • Make sleep and exercise a priority. Proper rest helps you cope with stress and exercise moves lymph through your system.
  • Honor your practice of meditation and gentle walking in your neighborhood.

I had the great good fortune to participate in a week-long detox supervised in Boulder, Colorado by the popular Ayurvedic practitioner Dr. John Douillard. If you would like to learn more about the private label herbal supplements I use, or more about Dr. John’s LifeSpa, I encourage you to go forth and love your lymph, too!
